Daemon X Machina is a spiritual fork of Armored Core, developed by former staff from the series too! Not only is the mecha customisation deep—from body parts to weapons—you can also customise your pilot's appearance and even their mechanical implants!
There Could Be a Lot More Story
The backstory of the apocalypse—moon fragments falling to Earth—is unfortunately barely mentioned in the game. Several plot points and character development moments feel rushed, even though they could have been expanded into a fuller narrative. It's a real shame, as the lore is genuinely interesting!
Gundam Veterans!
The game features many veteran Gundam voice actors—some even play obvious expys, such as the rivalry between Toru Furuya (piloting a black mecha) and Shuichi Ikeda (piloting a red one)! Other notable VAs include Ayako Kawasumi, Ayumi Tsunematsu, and Yosuke Akimoto.
Fast and Awesome Gameplay
After playing Armored Core 6, it's hard not to compare. Honestly though, Daemon X Machina feels superior in many ways. The combat is faster, you feel genuinely powerful in your mech, the HUD is customisable, it's more beginner-friendly, and it's just more fun overall. While Armored Core 6 feels like a step back from Armored Core 5, Daemon X Machina feels like its natural evolution. The only thing missing is a ramming attack.
Mecha-less Adventure
A unique feature in Daemon X Machina is the ability to dismount from your mecha, which makes co-op sessions more dynamic as you can swap machines. I even went a step further and replayed all the story missions using only the pilot—including the final boss!
Waiting for a Sequel
What will the sequel, Titanic Scion, bring? Since the Dominator (the final boss) is only the head of a gigantic mecha, will the story pick up from there? Will the customisation system be even better? Here's hoping!
You Can Get It Cheap
Psst—for those who missed the free Epic Games version, Daemon X Machina is often on sale on Steam. For around USD 10, you can enjoy hours of mecha customisation, intense battles, raids, and dual-wielding swords—or even shields!
