Dynasty Warriors 4 is the fourth mainline Dynasty Warriors game while being the third with the 1 vs 100 formula, this guide will go through mostly everything you can unlock throughout the game.

Character Unlocking/Lv. 10 Weapons

This will detail how to unlock all 42 characters for use in Free Mode, while also detailing how to get all level 10 weapon including the Edit Character weapons. For Lv. 10 weapons the following apply.

• The characters weapon must be Lv. 9.
• The difficulty must be set to Hard.
• These can be done in Free Mode where the territory is mentioned to find the stage or Musou Mode. Some can only be obtained in Musou Mode, namely 3 from Shu (Zhuge Liang, Ma Chao & Jiang Wei) & Zhang Liao in Lu Bu's Musou Mode.
• In cases where sub officers are involved if you defeat the main officer, but still manage to defeat the sub officer who is nearby before they retreat it will still meet the requirement.
• If using 2 players as long as one player meets the requirements the message will appear.
• Be careful if using the Lightning Orb for elemental attacks as it can take your kill which won't count for weapons.
• I never mention what Harness to use, but it will always be Shadow Harness due to not being knocked off when struck.
• If using mixjoy with Xtreme Legends these become harder due to the improved AI, so decide between the two methods.

Shu

Zhao Yun

• Unlock: Complete Shu Act 2.
• Lv. 10 Weapon: Fierce Dragon
• Power: +55
• Territory - Stage: Ru Nan - Battle of Bo Wan Po (Liu Bei's Forces)
• Requirement: Follow all of Zhuge Liang's instructions while defeating the officer after you lure them and have Zhuge Liang enter the castle.

Guan Yu

• Unlock: Initial unlock.
• Lv. 10 Weapon: Blue Moon Dragon
• Power: +57
• Territory - Stage: Xiang Yang - Battle of Fan Castle (Shu Forces)
• Requirement: When Mi Fang & Fu Shi Ren defect wait until all Shu ranks desert you then defeat Lu Xun, Lu Meng & Zhou Tai. You must wait for all ranks to desert as you will not get the weapon if you defeat Mi Fang & Fu Shi Ren to reform your ranks.

Zhang Fei

• Unlock: Initial unlock.
• Lv. 10 Weapon: Viper Blade
• Power: +58
• Territory - Stage: Nan Territory - Battle of Chang Ban (Liu Bei's Forces)
• Requirements:
• Accompany Liu Bei to cross the bridge and do Zhang Fei's Bridge Yell event.
• "Liu Chan, Liu Bei's infant son, is still inside the central fortress!" message, ride to the location on horse and break the box to view the event.
• Defeat Xiahou Yuan while Zhao Yun is still alive.
  • You will want to defeat Xiahou Dun, Xiahou En & Xiahou De to keep Zhao Yun alive longer. When crossing the bridge make sure Liu Bei goes first, if you go before him the Bridge Yell event will not happen and thus weapon lost. For the Bridge Yell event you will have to wait for enemies to get close to you for it to happen, you must also be standing on the bridge.

Zhuge Liang

• Unlock: Complete Shu Act 2.
• Lv. 10 Weapon: Peacock Feather
• Power: +50
• Stage: Shu Musou Mode - Battle of Wu Zhang Plains
• Prerequisite: Clear Battle of Jie Ting.
• Requirements:
• Approach Zhang He, wait for the Arbalest event to take out the crossbowmen, defeat Zhang He & do the Taunt Sima Yi event.
• Protect the supply unit when they appear and defeat Xiahou Dun.
• "The supply unit has cleared the front lines!" message.
• Suggested Items: Tiger Amulet, Wind Scroll, Tortoise Amulet, Peacock Urn + your choices.
  • You must make sure to do the Taunt Sima Yi event after you defeat Zhang He so you will need to lure him away from the top of the path. Xiahou Dun has to be defeated before the supply unit clears the front lines which gives you 2 minutes, all of this happens around the left fort. The supply unit doesn't appear in Free Mode.

Liu Bei

• Unlock: Initial unlock.
• Lv. 10 Weapon: Gold Moon Dragon
• Power: +52
• Territory - Stage: Ru Nan - Battle of Ru Nan (Liu Bei's Forces)
• Requirements:
• Meet with Zhao Yun then defeat Li Dian before Xiahou Yuan appears.
• Join up with Zhang Fei and defeat Xiahou Yuan, Yu Jin & Zhang He before Guan Yu appears.
• Defeat all remaining officers except Cao Cao.
  • You have to wait for Zhao Yun to appear along the lower right path before you defeat Li Dian. Entering the castle counts as joining up with Zhang Fei which causes Xiahou Yuan to appear immediately.

Ma Chao

• Unlock: Campaign for Cheng Du - Defeat him.
• Lv. 10 Weapon: Stallion Fury
• Power: +57
• Stage: Shu Musou Mode - Campaign for Cheng Du
• Requirement: Reach the left side of the map to trigger Ma Dai & Pang De to appear as reinforcements and defeat them.
  • This can't be done in Free Mode as Ma Chao will be in Pang De's place.

Huang Zhong

• Unlock: The Campaign for Jing - Defeat him.
• Lv. 10 Weapon: Oracle Sword
• Power: +54
• Territory - Stage: Wu Territory - Battle of Jian Ye (Shu Forces)
• Requirements: Before defeating the real Sun Jian do the following
• Defeat either Huang Gai, Taishi Ci or Zhou Tai and get to the path to Sun Jian's main camp.
• Sun Ce, Sun Quan & Sun Shang Xiang will start to charge after the event.
• Defeat Sun Ce, Sun Quan and Sun Shang Xiang once.

Suggested Items: Tiger Amulet, Wind Scroll, Tortoise Amulet + your choice.

• It is recommended to not be put as one of the 2 randomly picked officers on the field as you lose morale faster and thus have a harder time as support and instead be a sub officer under Liu Bei. You can choose to save scum for morale boost by saving every time you are at around 45/95 on your KO count to help your allies survive longer.

Jiang Wei

• Unlock: Battle of Tian Shui - Defeat Wang Lang, Xiahou Mao & Xiahou De then wait for Jiang Wei to be forced to leave the castle. Defeat his two sub officers and lure him to Zhuge Liang making him surrender.
• Lv. 10 Weapon: Blink
• Power: +55
• Stage: Shu Musou Mode - Battle of Tian Shui
• Requirements:
• Defeat the Guard Captains on the South and East sides of Ji Castle and defeat Cao Ren then Wang Lang.
• Defeat the Guard Captains on the South and West sides of Tian Shui Castle and defeat Yin Shang & Liang Xu.
  • You need to get the ambush parties to appear from both sides to ensure getting the weapon. If you want your officers to stay alive longer you can choose to save scum for morale boosts when you KO count is close to 45/95.

Wei Yan

• Unlock: The Campaign for Jing - Defeat him.
• Lv. 10 Weapon: Comet Strike
• Power: +57
• Territory - Stage: Yi Ling - The Campaign for Jing (Liu Bei's Forces)
• Requirement: Defeat Huang Zhong while Jin Xuan & Zhao Fan are alive.
  • The weapon message happens after Han Xuan gets assassinated.

Pang Tong

• Unlock: Complete Shu Act 2.
• Lv. 10 Weapon: Tornado Staff
• Power: +51
• Territory - Stage: Cheng Du - Battle of Luo Castle (Liu Bei's Forces)
• Requirements:
• Ride up to Luo Castle to get the message "Luo Castle is showing no signs of opening its gates!", then defeat either Liu Han or Zhang Yi.
• Proceed with the plan to capture Zhang Ren by approaching the castle to anger him which will cause him to chase you.
• Do not duel him and lead him to the Northern bridge South of the castle.
• Jin Yan Bridge gets destroyed, Zhang Ren will start to retreat, defeat Zhang Ren.
  • You can damage Zhang Ren as much as you want, but you must wait for him to mention retreating to defeat him, do it too early and you will not get the weapon.

Yue Ying

• Unlock: Complete Shu Act 4.
• Lv. 10 Weapon: Oblivion
• Power: +53
• Territory - Stage: Nan Zhong - The Nanman Campaign (Shu Forces)
• Requirements:
• Defeat all officers except Wu Tugu, Dong Tu Ne & Ahui Nan.
• Defeat Meng Huo 6 times, once in a duel.
• Defeat Zhu Rong in a duel.
• Defeat Wu Tugu using Zhuge Liang's strategy.
  • This is not as bad as it seems if you can manage to keep Meng Huo's morale low so that none of your allies have to worry about dying. You have to defeat Meng Huo and Zhu Rong in a duel or you won't get the weapon. Wu Tugu has to be approached for him to move, Zhuge Liang's fire attack must be what kills him.

Wei Weapons

Xiahou Dun

Unlock: Initial unlock.

• Lv. 10 Weapon: Kirin Fang
• Power: +56
• Territory - Stage: Xu Province - Battle of Xia Pi (Cao Cao's Forces)
• Requirement: After getting shot by an arrow event defeat Diao Chan.

Dian Wei

• Unlock: Clear Wei Act 1.
• Lv. 10 Weapon: Mad Bull
• Power: +58
• Territory - Stage: Nan Yang - Battle of Wan Castle (Cao Cao's Forces)
• Requirement: Get Xu Zhu to break the wall.
  • There are 2 ways you can go about doing this, defeat everyone in the stage then get Cao Cao to go through the stage to get Xu Zhu to break the wall or escort Cao Cao through the stage normally leading up to Xu Zhu breaking the wall. It doesn't matter which one you choose to do.

Xu Zhu

• Unlock: Clear Wei Act 2.
• Lv. 10 Weapon: Stone Crusher
• Power: +59
• Territory - Stage: Luo Yang - Battle of Tong Gate (Cao Cao's Forces)
• Requirements:
• Defeat Ma Dai then Pang De in order then wait for Cao Cao to meet with Han Sui.
• Defeat 2 sub-officers of Han Sui to get him to defect.
• Shu forces charge.
  • You need to go through the castle south of where you start to defeat Ma Dai then Pang De before Cao Cao meets with Han Sui which happens after Jia Xu suggests it. You need to defeat Ma Dai before Pang De or you will not get the weapon.

Cao Cao

• Unlock: Initial unlock.
• Lv. 10 Weapon: Wrath of Heaven
• Power: +56
• Territory - Stage: Chi Bi - Battle of Chi Bi (Cao Cao's Forces)
• Requirements:
• Approach Pang Tong to thwart his ploy.
• Defeat Zhuge Liang to stop his wind prayer.
• Defeat Gan Ning & Lu Meng before Huang Gai appears.
• Defeat Huang Gai and prevent his fire attack.

Xiahou Yuan

• Unlock: Initial unlock.
• Lv. 10 Weapon: Enforcer Rod
• Power: +55
• Territory - Stage: Han Zhong - Battle of Mt. Ding Jun (Wei Forces)
• Requirement: Defeat Chen Shi before he successfully retreats then head for Huang Zhong and defeat him.

Zhang Liao

• Unlock: Clear Battle of Xia Pi or unlock Lu Bu's Musou Mode.
• Lv. 10 Weapon: Gold Wyvern
• Power: +56
• Stage: Lu Bu Musou Mode - Battle of Hu Lao Gate
• Prerequisite: During Battle of Si Shui Gate defeat Sun Jian, Cao Cao & Liu Bei.
• Requirements:
• Do not defeat anyone until the fire attack which happens when you run towards Sun Jian, Cao Cao and Liu Bei.
• Defeat Sun Jian, Cao Cao & Liu Bei.
  • The enemy fire attack doesn't happen in Free Mode.

Sima Yi

• Unlock: Clear Wei Act 4.
• Lv. 10 Weapon: Dark Feather
• Power: +50
• Territory - Stage: Wu Zhang Plains - Battle of Wu Zhang Plains (Wei Forces)
• Requirement: Defeat Zhang Yi, Wei Yan, Guan Xing & Ma Chao. Zhuge Liang's fake death event triggers.
• Suggested Items: Tiger Amulet, Wind Scroll, Elixir, Tortoise Amulet, Peacock Urn + your choice.
  • If you defeat Ma Su before Guan Xing or Ma Chao you will not get the weapon message.

Xu Huang

• Unlock: Clear Wei Act 1.
• Lv. 10 Weapon: Marauder
• Power: +57
• Territory - Stage: Guan Du - Battle of Guan Du (Cao Cao's Forces)
• Requirements:
• Defeat Yan Liang & Wen Chou before Guan Yu does.
• Guan Yu & Liu Bei meet and retreat.
• Let Bai Ma fall causing Cao Cao to close Guan Du Castle gates.
• Wait for the enemy to reach Guan Du Castle causing Rams to appear.
• Wu Chao supply depot gets discovered and protect Cao Cao while he makes his way there and enter after him.
• Defeat Chunyu Qiong and wait for Guan Du walls to fall then defeat Lu Wei Kuang.
• Zhang He defects to Wei.
  • If you have events off you need to wait until the walls are crumbling message appears twice.

Zhang He

• Unlock: Clear 11 Wei stages, alternatively during Battle of Guan Du set Wu Chao on fire while Zhang He is still alive.
• Lv. 10 Weapon: Phoenix Talon
• Power: +52
• Territory - Stage: Wu Zhang Plains - Battle of Jie Ting (Wei Forces)
• Requirements:
• Defeat Ma Su's sub-officers then Ma Su.
• Defeat every officer with Zhuge Liang being the last one.

Zhen Ji

• Unlock: Clear Wei Act 3.
• Lv. 10 Weapon: Dark Moon Flute
• Power: +51
• Territory - Stage: Nan Territory - Battle of Chang Ban (Cao Cao's Forces)
• Requirements:
• Defeat Zhao Yun in a duel.
• Activate Zhang Fei's Bridge Yell event then defeat him in a duel.
• Defeat Zhuge Liang & Guan Yu.
  • Liu Bei needs to cross the bridge for Zhang Fei to do his yell, if you approach him earlier the event won't happen and he won't duel you. If you head too far down (the center section under the bridges of the middle area) the navy will arrive earlier making it harder to get the weapon as Liu Bei can escape even if Guan Yu is defeated.

Cao Ren

• Unlock: Clear Wei Act 3.
• Lv. 10 Weapon: Roc
• Power: +56
• Territory - Stage: Xiang Yang - The Siege of Fan Castle (Wei Forces)
• Requirements:
• Destroy all four siege weapons, starting with the ramps on the East and West side first as they get set up quickly.
• Defeat Lu Meng after he charges.
  • You will want Shadow Harness with Horned Helmet as one of your items, head for the Northeast corner of the castle and destroy the Siege Ramp making its way to the East Wall. After that continue along the North side of the castle to the West side and destroy that Siege Ramp before it stops. Then destroy the Catapults on the North and South sides of the castle which will cause Lu Meng to charge out. Do not defeat more than 2 officers before destroying all of the siege weapons or Lu Meng will charge early and the weapon will be lost.

Wu Weapons

Zhou Yu

• Unlock: Clear Wu Act 2.
• Lv. 10 Weapon: Ancients Sword
• Power: +54
• Territory - Stage: Xiang Yang - The Siege of Fan Castle (Wu Forces)
• Requirement: At 10:20 into the battle an enemy convoy appears in the top right corner of the map making its way to the Castle entrance on the right, defeat it before it gets there.

Lu Xun

• Unlock: Complete Wu Act 4.
• Lv. 10 Weapon: Falcon
• Power: +52
• Territory - Stage: Yi Ling - Battle of Yi Ling (Wu Forces)
• Requirement: Keep Zhu Ran alive until his fire attack succeeds, then finish the Stone Sentinel Maze within 3 minutes after entering.
  • The timer for the maze doesn't start until you get in you can save before entering. The solution to the maze is go right, down, right then hug the wall until you get to the exit.

Taishi Ci

• Unlock: Campaign for Wu Territory - Defeat him, then wait for him to return as ally reinforcements before completing the stage.
• Lv. 10 Weapon: Tiger Slayer
• Power: +56
• Territory - Stage: Wu Territory - Campaign for the Wu Territory (Sun Jian's Forces)
• Requirements: When you cross the bridge Yu Mi will retreat into the fort, enter before the gates close then defeat Yu Mi & Zhang Ying before Jiang Qin opens the gate from inside.
  • You will want a horse for this due to Yu Mi starting very close to the gate and Taishi Ci's running speed being pretty slow.

Sun Shang Xiang

• Unlock: Initial unlock.
• Lv. 10 Weapon: Sol Chakram
• Power: +51
• Territory - Stage: Nan Territory - Race for Nan Territory (Allied Forces)
• Requirement: Defeat Cao Ren.
  • Defeat Wang Lang and enter the castle which should cause Zhou Yu to be shot by an arrow in an event. After awhile Cao Ren will fall for Zhou Yu's ploy and charge.

Sun Jian

• Unlock: Initial unlock.
• Lv. 10 Weapon: Savage Tiger
• Power: +54
• Territory - Stage: Luo Yang - The Imperial Seal (Sun Jian's Forces)
• Requirement: Before breaking 50 boxes defeat Li Jue, Zhang Liao, Diao Chan & Lu Bu.

Sun Quan

• Unlock: Complete Wu Act 3.
• Lv. 10 Weapon: Master Wolf
• Power: +53
• Territory - Stage: He Fei - Battle of He Fei (Wu Forces)
• Requirements:
• Defeat Xiahou Dun & Xiahou Yuan.
• After the bridge gets destroyed isolating Sun Jian, defeat Li Dian.
• Help Sun Jian jump the bridge and wait for Zhang Liao to attack, defeat Zhang Liao.

Lu Meng

• Unlock: Complete Wu Act 1.
• Lv. 10 Weapon: White Tiger
• Power: +54
• Territory - Stage: Nan Territory - Battle of Mai Castle (Sun Jian's Forces)
• Suggested Items: Tiger Amulet, Wind Scroll, Tortoise Amulet, Elixir, Herbal Remedy
• Requirements:
• Let Liao Hua escape to bring back-up troops and enter the castle from the North and defeat Wang Fu.
• Defeat the upper left and lower Gate Captains.
• Liao Hua returns with reinforcements, defeat Liao Hua, Meng Da, Liu Feng & Guan Ping to cause Guan Yu to abandon the castle and defeat the 2 new Gate Captains before Guan Yu reaches it.
• Guan Yu will make his way to the Gate Captain at the very bottom, defeat it before he reaches it.
• Guan Yu decides to stay and fight, enter the castle which causes the gates to close and more officers appear.
• Defeat all officers (sub officers included) except Zhang Fei & Guan Yu, then defeat Zhang Fei.
  • If Jiang Wei challenges you to a duel you will need to decline as you need him alive to keep Guan Yu in the castle longer.

Gan Ning

• Unlock: Complete Wu Act 4, alternatively during Battle of Xia Kou defeat Gan Ning before Su Fei.
• Lv. 10 Weapon: Sea Master
• Power: +56
• Territory - Stage: Chi Bi - Battle of Xia Kou (Sun Jian's Forces)
• Requirements:
• Go straight for Su Fei & Gan Ning/Chen Sheng and defeat them.
• Wait until Huang Zu has moved the flagship near your camp, then wait for Zhou Yu to mention the boat having Gunpowder kegs & destroy it.
• Defeat all officers except Huang Zu while Ling Cao & Ling Tong are still alive before Huang Zu's flagship is in flames.
• "Huang Zu's flagship is in flames after colliding with another ship!" message.
  • In Free Mode it'll be Gan Ning while Musou Mode it'll be Chen Sheng. You must not defeat anyone before Su Fei & Gan Ning/Chen Sheng. If Ling Tong doesn't arrive as reinforcements you will not get the weapon as both he & Ling Cao need to be on the field, you can get Ling Tong to arrive by having Ling Cao lose some health. You have 3 minutes to defeat the rest of the officers after the burning ship leaves.

Huang Gai

• Unlock: Initial Unlock
• Lv. 10 Weapon: Dark Shadow
• Power: +56
• Territory - Stage: Chi Bi - Battle of Chi Bi (Sun Jian's Forces)
• Requirement: Defeat all enemy Gate Captains before the fire attack then defeat Cao Ren, Cao Hong & Cao Pi.
  • You have 10 minutes to take out all Gate Captains which is best done using a horse preferably Shadow Runner due to not being knocked off of it when you get hit. After defeating all Gate Captains you can take your time defeating Cao Ren, Cao Hong & Cao Pi in any order.

Sun Ce

• Unlock: Clear Wu Act 2.
• Lv. 10 Weapon: Overlord
• Power: +54
• Territory - Stage: Wu Territory - Unification of Jiang Dong (Sun Jian's Forces)
• Requirements:
• Defeat Liang Gang and wait for Zhou Yu to be defeated then defeat Chen Ji, Yue Jiu & Yuan Shu.
• Meet with Ji Ling to cause Liu Xun to order attack on the supply fort and defeat Li Feng before Liu Xun enters the fort.
  • Do not bother fighting Ji Ling as you will not have enough time to reach Li Feng, recommended using Shadow Runner horse so you don't get knocked off while making your way to Li Feng. It is recommended to damage Li Feng if you are having a tough time getting this.

Da Qiao

• Unlock: Clear the stage The Two Qiaos.
• Lv. 10 Weapon: Qiao Beauty
• Power: +50
• Territory - Stage: Xu Chang - Battle of Xu Chang (Wu Forces)
• Requirement: Defeat Deng Ai, Hu Zhi & Dian Wei.

Xiao Qiao

• Unlock: Clear the stage The Two Qiaos.
• Lv. 10 Weapon: Qiao Grace
• Power: +50
• Territory - Stage: Cheng Du - Battle of Cheng Du (Wu Forces)
• Requirement: Defeat Ma Su then defeat Guan Ping and Guan Yu before Ma Chao appears as reinforcements.
  • Guan Ping appears as an ambush troop in the top half of the forest near the Gate Captain close to Zhuge Liang while Guan Yu appears at the bottom path. Ma Chao appears 4 minutes after Ma Su has been defeated.

Zhou Tai

• Unlock: Clear Wu Act 3.
• Lv. 10 Weapon: Dusk
• Power: +55
• Territory - Stage: Nan Zhong - The Nanman Campaign (Wu Forces)
• Requirement: Defeat Wu Tugu and enter the enemy main camp before Dong Tu Ne & Ahui Nan defect.
  • A horse is recommended for this. Dong Tu Ne & Ahui Nan won't defect unless a number of Nanman officers have been defeated so just rush straight for Wu Tugu.

Others Weapons

Diao Chan

• Unlock: Clear Lu Bu Act 1.
• Lv. 10 Weapon: Diva
• Power: +51
• Territory - Stage: Xu Chang - Battle of Si Shui Gate (Dong Zhuo's Forces)
• Requirement: Do not defeat any officer and wait for Hua Xiong to be defeated, afterward defeat two out of Liu Bei, Cao Cao & Sun Jian.

Lu Bu

• Unlock: Clear Wei, Wu or Shu's Musou Mode.
• Lv. 10 Weapon: Sky Scorcher
• Power: +60
• Territory - Stage: Nan Yang - Lu Bu's Revolt (Lu Bu's Forces)
• Requirement: Dong Zhuo is the only enemy alive.
  • Simple objective, if Dong Zhuo is the only enemy on the field and you haven't gotten the weapon yet then there are still some ambush troops you haven't found and defeated yet. Officers & sub-officers must be personally defeated by you and Dong Zhuo must be by himself with no troops around him including no Gate Captains.

Dong Zhuo

• Unlock: Clear Lu Bu's Musou Mode.
• Lv. 10 Weapon: Horror
• Power: +57
• Territory - Stage: Nan Yan - Lu Bu's Revolt (Dong Zhuo's Forces)
• Requirement: Lu Bu is the only enemy alive.
  • Simple objective, officers must be personally defeated by you and Lu Bu must be by himself with no troops around him including no Gate Captains.

Yuan Shao

• Unlock: Clear Wei's Musou Mode.
• Lv. 10 Weapon: Sword of Kings
• Power: +53
• Territory - Stage: Guan Du - Battle of Guan Du (Yuan Shao's Forces)
• Requirement: Keep the Ram alive until it breaks Guan Du Castles wall.

Zhang Jiao

• Unlock: Clear every other kingdom musou mode once.
• Lv 10. Weapon: Volcano Staff
• Power: +52
• Territory - Stage: Ji Province - The Yellow Turban Rebellion (Yellow Turbans)
• Requirement: Defeat all officers and sub-officers except Dong Zhuo with Zhang Bao & Zhang Liang alive.

Meng Huo

• Unlock: During Wu or Shu's Nanman Campaign defeat him in a duel then finish the Musou mode.
• Lv. 10 Weapon: King of Beasts
• Power: +58
• Territory - Stage: Cheng Du - Battle of Cheng Du (Nanman Forces)
• Requirement: Defeat all playable officers except Liu Bei (Zhuge Liang, Jiang Wei, Zhao Yun, Yue Ying, Ma Chao & Guan Yu).

Zhu Rong

• Unlock: During Wu or Shu's Nanman Campaign defeat her in a duel then finish the Musou mode.

  • Cao Zhang is Xu Zhu's sub-officer so you will need to make sure not to defeat Xu Zhu first. This setup is mainly for strong C4 & C6s, if an enemy officer gets frozen you can musou close to them to kill them.

  • He Yi will ambush Huangfu Song when the Rainstorm is triggered, this happens when either 3 generals are defeated or you reach the top of the map North of the castle wall. Yan Zheng will ambush Huangfu Song when he leaves the castle through the Northeast exit.

Sword

• Lv.10 Weapon: Phoenix Tail
• Power: +54
• Territory - Stage: Guan Du - The Yellow Turban Fortress (Han Forces)
• Requirement: Defeat Bo Zhang, Zhou Cang & Cheng Yuanzhi or He Yi, Pei Yuan Shao & Cheng Yuanzhi in under 6 minutes.
  • Basically pick one side and finish it and Cheng Yuanzhi within 6 minutes.

Spear

• Requirements:
  • Defeat Fan Chou to take the Supply Depot.
  • Defeat Hua Xiong and both of Li Jue's sub-officers.
  • Defeat Zhang Liao after he appears as backup.

If Li Jue is the only officer left he will try to flee, as long as he's not alone he will stay still. Zhang Liao appears roughly at the 5 minute mark. This can't be obtained in Musou Mode if Zhang Liao is unlocked.

Pike

• Lv. 10 Weapon: Eclipse
• Power: +56
• Territory - Stage: Luo Yang - Battle of Hu Lao Gate (Allied Forces)
• Requirement: Defeat Lu Bu.
  • Doesn't have to be in a duel.

Stages might have a Dim Sum which increases max Health by 10 or a Musou Wine which increases max Musou by 10, they are found in pots, on certain occasions an extra warrior may join the battle for the enemy which will usually yield an extra Dim Sum. If you are looking for a particular stage Ctrl+F and then type in the name. For the Tales stages you can do them on your first playthrough and don't need to complete a playthrough with Wei, Wu or Shu.

• Location: Bottom right island.
• Requirement: Defeat Zhao Yun & Guan Yu before all reinforcements arrive, then deplete Liu Bei's health to half.
  • You must not defeat anyone else after Liu Bei's army charges to get the item message to appear.

Storm Harness

• Effect: Begin stage mounted on Storm Runner (Mount Attack Lv.6)
• Territory - Stage: Guan Du - Campaign against Cao Cao (Lu Bu Forces)
• Location: By Cao Cao's starting point.
• Requirements:
• Get caught by Yue Jin (left of Xiahou Yuan's fort) or Xu Huang's ambush (circular area on the right).
• Foil the one you didn't get caught in by circling around behind them.
• Make Xiahou Dun appear then defeat him.

Shadow Harness

Effect: Begin stage mounted on Shadow Runner (Can't be knocked off)
Territory - Stage: Luo Yang - Battle of Tong Gate (Liu Bei's Forces)
Location: Right from the upper rock in the lower right section.
Requirements:

• Defeat all officers in the lower right.
• Enter the Ice Castle on a horse.
• Wait for Han Sui & Cao Cao meeting event.
• Defeat Xu Huang & Yu Jin.
• Drop Cao Cao's morale below 1 star.
• Han Sui stays on Ma Chao's side.
• Event involving horses.
  • This is the most irritating item to get in the game, here's how I was able to get this. Defeat the officers in order of Xiahou Yuan, Cao Ren, Dian Wei & Cao Hong, steal a horse from whoever doesn't duel you unless you brought your own horse. Enter the Ice Castle while you are mounted and seal the enemy Gate Captain in the upper left section. Wait for Han Sui & Cao Cao to meet, if Cao Cao is by the bridgelayer unit pass by and move toward Han Sui to get him to follow. Then defeat Yu Jin & Xu Huang, lower Cao Cao's morale to 1 star by defeating troops and his sub officers. Xiahou Dun appeared at the 10 minute mark whom I defeated and waited for Han Sui to stay on Ma Chao's side then the horse event happened. Cao Cao had no morale when the horse event happened, if you meet the requirements, but don't get the horse event to happen nudge Ma Chao inside the Ice Castle which should get the event to happen.

Elephant Harness

• Effect: Begin stage mounted on Elephant
• Territory - Stage: Nan Zhong - The Nanman Campaign (Nanman Forces)
• Location: Nanman main camp in front of the middle Southern wall.
• Requirement: Ride an Elephant into the enemy main camp.

Orbs

These augment your charge attacks to have elemental power and add an extra effect based on the element when you have full musou with weapons that are Lv 1-9. Lv 10 weapons will be able to use these without a full musou bar. These max at Lv 4 and increase in strength/duration/chance the higher the level.

Fire Orb	Slowly burn the enemy gradually draining their health.
Lightning Orb	A bolt of lightning hits the enemy and surrounding troops. Can potentially steal kills including officers.
Vorpal Orb	Potentially one shot normal peons, fixed damage to officers.
Ice Orb	Freezes enemies in place for a brief period.
Blast Orb	Deal small damage to guarding enemies.
Poison Orb	Lowers enemies defense for a very brief period.

Certain characters when having their Lv. 10 weapon will be able to have elemental Musou attacks when paired with the item Way of Musou or doing a True Musou at low health, these mainly effect any attacks that aren't physical hits like projectiles and shockwaves.

Shu: Zhuge Liang, Pang Tong
Wei: Sima Yi, Zhen Ji
Wu: None
Others: Zhang Jiao, Meng Huo, Zhu Rong

Cao Ren, Lu Bu & Dong Zhuo can also get an elemental hit from their True Musou, however it is only on the final hit (the stomp).

Normal

Normal items are ones that boost your characters stats, these will max at Lv 20.

Unique

These are items with specific effects that only need to be obtained once. The items are listed in order of how they appear when selecting items to use for battle.

Art of War

• Effect: Ability boost items have longer effect (Attack/Defense/Speed x2 will be 60 seconds, Musou Full for 20 seconds)
• Territory - Stage: He Fei - Campaign against Sun Jian (Dong Zhuo's Forces)
• Supply Unit: Gate Captain behind Lu Meng that makes its way to the Gate Captain near the ally main camp that appears when Sun Jian moves from the castle.
• Requirement: Defeat Sun Quan and enter the castle, afterward defeat 3 of either Lu Meng, Zhou Tai, Gan Ning & Sun Shang Xiang.
  • Lu Meng & Zhou Tai being defeated before entering the castle will count.

Survival Guide

• Effect: Attack x2 when near death (standing up when health bar is red gives Attack x2 for 30 seconds)
• Territory - Stage: He Fei - The Two Qiaos (Sun Jian's Forces)
• Location: Southwest of the center bridge.
• Requirement: Rescue both Qiao's personally.

Bodyguard Manual

• Effect: Bodyguards become stronger (makes them more aggressive)
• Territory - Stage: Xu Chang - Guan Yu's Escape (Liu Bei's Forces)
• Location: South of the 5th gate before the stage ends.
• Requirement: Xiahou Dun encounters Guan Yu after passing the 5th gate.
  • This is better done playing as Guan Yu, you will want to wait for the carriage to catch up to you after defeating Bian Xi and clearing the 3rd gate to give ample time for it to null the potential ambush and for when you clear the 4th gate before Xiahou Dun catches up.

Way of Musou

• Effect: Can use True Musou Attack regardless of health (Musou will deal fire damage with an extended finisher)
• Territory - Stage: Xu Chang - Guan Yu's Escape (Cao Cao's Forces)
• Supply Unit: Top right corner of the area right of the double bridge from the 4th gate that makes its way East to the Southern notch between Gates 2 & 3.
• Requirement: Pass the 5th gate.

Power Scroll

• Effect: Never lose weapon deadlocks (loss changes to draw)
• Stage: The Yellow Turban Fortress (Yellow Turbans Forces)
• Supply Unit: In the small pass in the top left that makes its way to the right Gate Captain in the upper area.
• Requirement: Defeat Guan Yu & Zhao Yun

Wind Scroll

• Effect: Attack range increase
• Territory - Stage: Xu Chang - Battle of Xu Chang (Shu Forces)
• Location: West of the left Gate Captain outside of Xu Chang's West side.
• Requirement: When asked to choose to defend the Siege Ramp or the Supply Depot succeed in both.

Fire Arrows

• Effect: Can shoot fire arrows (burn targets dealing slightly more damage)
• Territory - Stage: Yi Ling - Unification of Jing (Sun Jian's Forces)
• Supply Unit: Eastern exit of the top left castle that makes its way to the top right.
• Requirement: Defeat Zhou Xin before the enemy does a joint attack.

Charge Bracer

• Effect: Withstand attacks while performing Charge (as long as it doesn't make your character jump)
• Territory - Stage: He Fei - Campaign against Sun Jian (Yuan Shao's Forces)
• Supply Unit: Northwest corner outside the South entry that makes its way to the Gate Captain near the ally main camp that appears when Sun Jian moves from the castle.
• Requirement: Enter the castle before backup troops arrive.

Item Farming

There are two stages you can choose from one being very fast (Battle of Yi Ling Wu Forces) the other requiring patience to run through the stage (Battle of Cheng Du Wei Forces). I prefer Battle of Cheng Du, Wei Forces is the safest as the only time anyone should get routed is at the start of the stage, after you clear the first waves before the castle no one should fall ever. I do this with all 3 forces that have this stage, though know that Nanman is the most dangerous, but also lowest difficulty rank of the three (by 1 flame mark). While Battle of Yi Ling Wu Forces is much faster, you are also limited to Ma Chao, Zhou Tai & a created warrior using Ma Chao's moveset, should you not like either of those this is doable by everyone. This stage has 5 item bags to collect, the 5 items bags are located at.

1. Bottom right corner of the ally main camp
2. Western exit from the castle on the upper wall.
3. From where Guan Ping's ambush appears the indent in the forest under him.
4. On the secret path where it would be blocked.
5. Corner opposite of the lower left enemy Gate Captain, must be broken twice.

Quit and save before you start picking up items as bags picked up before saving will already have the contents determined when you beat the stage. If you don't get an upgrade to your items press Start+Select, reload the save and try again, this will require patience specially for Elemental Orbs as they are pretty rare.

Endings

Each kingdom has 4 endings based on how well you do during Musou Mode, these will list the factors you have to check in order to achieve the endings in particular. Nanman is a special case as they only have 4 so their endings have to still abide by your performance rather than number of stages played. These can be done on any difficulty through if you have strong bodyguards playing on Easy or Novice with Mixjoy is acceptable to let them get your kills to drag out stages if needed.

Ending 1 (Mild Breeze)

Average over 20 minutes and under 200 KO's.
You must also drag out the battles to take up over 20 minutes, use your strongest bodyguards to keep your KO count average to stay under 200.

Ending 2 (Mighty Inferno)

Average over 20 minutes and over 200 KO's.
You must also drag out the battles to take up over 20 minutes and get over 200 KO's.

Ending 3 (Fierce Tempest)

Average under 20 minutes.
This will likely be the ending you'll get unless you spend too much time on multiple stages. With the exception of Wei, Wu, Shu & Nanman (since they only have 4 stages) you should aim to play the least amount of stages possible while also not fulfilling the below if you didn't get this ending.

Ending 4 (The Dynasty Warrior)

Average under 20 minutes, over 4000 rank points & over 200 KO's per stage while also fulfilling a special requirement.
This is one to do when you have Lv. 10 or 11 weapons with Mixjoy so you can rack up the KO's & points quick. The special requirements per kingdom are as follows

• Wei: Battle of Chi Bi - Uncover Pang Tong's plot, prevent Zhuge Liang from summoning the wind and prevent Huang Gai's Fire Attack.
• Wu: Race for Nan Territory - Capture all three territories.
• Shu: Campaign for Cheng Du - Get Liu Zhang to surrender (details below).
• Dong Zhuo: Battle of Si Shui Gate - After Hua Xiong is defeated and Li Jue considers retreating defeat Sun Jian, Cao Cao & Liu Bei.
• Lu Bu: Lu Bu's Revolt - Personally defeat all generals, sub generals included (list below).
• Yuan Shao: Battle of Guan Du - Defeat Guan Yu.
• Yellow Turbans: Yellow Turban Rebellion - All ally generals survive.
• Nanman: Battle of Cheng Du - Wu Tugu survives.

Campaign for Cheng Du Liu Zhang's Surrender

• You must capture Li Yan.
• Do not approach Liu Xun until all the other generals are dealt with.
• When the enemy reinforcements arrive do not defeat Ma Chao/Pang De until all the other generals are defeated.

Easing the AI

Finding weapon hard to get due to the AI being too aggressive (which they can be specially for those using mixjoy)? Here's a way to make them less aggressive making these be easier.

Start the stage on Hard (or Expert for Mixjoy) and make a save immediately, go to the options and change the difficulty to Easy (or Beginner for Mixjoy) and start a different stage with any character. After the stage has loaded in battle soft reset (Start+Select) and go back and continue to your original save, enemies will now be more passive.
