Dynasty Warriors 3: Xtreme Legends is the first ever expansion to a Warriors title, as with all Xtreme Legends expansions it has its own content to separate itself from the vanilla game, but to have all the content from the vanilla game Mixjoy is needed.

Three words of warning before beginning

• First if you used Cheat Codes with the vanilla game your save cannot be transferred to Xtreme Legends due to anti cheating measures.
• Second if you have Xtreme Legends and are wondering should you transfer/mixjoy with the vanilla game do so as early as possible, due to the item Musou Armor requirement rank points will get reset back to 0 if you transfer your save. Your stats will be kept though.
• Third all 4th weapons and the old Unique items require the vanilla game via mixjoy which are all under Original Mode, this is also true for those on Complete Edition Remastered.

New Musou Modes

5th Weapons

New to this expansion are 5th weapons for everyone, unlike the vanilla game all weapons are in a box this time with no Supply Captains to chase as it’s tough enough to do some of these requirements. These are some of the toughest weapons in the series to get and require the following

• Difficulty must be set to Very Hard, Archers and Crossbowmen are very lethal as they have high damage output so watch your surroundings, playable generals will also be using 4th weapons which do include elemental attacks to be weary of.
• 9 of the weapons require Xtreme Mode (this game) while the other 32 require Original Mode (the vanilla game), make sure you are playing the correct mode. These are written as (O) Original, (X) Xtreme in front of the stage name. This holds true if on Complete Edition Remastered where stages requiring Xtreme need the Xtreme tag in Free Mode.
• In addition to the previous elements a new one was added to this game Wind, its effect is to increase juggle height in order to help keep your combo going.

Shu

Zhao Yun

• 5th Weapon: (O) The Nanman Campaign (Shu Forces) – Defeat all officers.
  • Meng Huo only needs to be defeated once and sub officers don’t matter.
• Element: AAAAB & AAAAAB
• Precious Item: South of the Shu Main Camp on the right of the divider near the top of the center bridges.

Guan Yu

• 5th Weapon: (O) The Battle at Fan Castle (Shu Forces) - Defeat Pang De, Lu Xun, Gan Ning & Lu Meng in order.
• Precious Item: Northeastern corner of the map.

Zhang Fei

• 5th Weapon: (O) The Battle at Mt. Ding Jun (Shu Forces) – Mount a horse and charge down the trail on Huang Zhong’s side, go into the fork on the right path and make your way to the bridge then defeat Cao Hong.
  • It’s okay to fall off the horse as you charge down, just get back on and continue. You can also take your time, though be careful going down the path by yourself. Cao Hong is at the Northwest side of Cao Cao’s main camp.

• Precious Item: At the end of the right path you charged down from.

Zhuge Liang

• 5th Weapon: (O) The Battle at Chi Bi (Liu Bei’s Forces) – Get 1,000 KO’s
• Element: AAB & AAAAAB
• Precious Item: Center of the Northwest landmass around Cao Pi’s starting position.

Liu Bei

• 5th Weapon: (O) The Battle of Jie Ting (Shu Forces) – When Ma Su is surrounded defeat Xin Pi to save him.
• Element: AAAABB
• Precious Item: South of Sima Yi’s camp in the small section on the West half.

Ma Chao

• 5th Weapon: (O) Assault on Cheng Du (Liu Bei’s Forces) – Defeat Liu Xun or Liu Han with Pang Tong alive.
• Element: AAAB
• Precious Item: Southwest corner of the map.

Huang Zhong

• 5th Weapon: (O) The Battle at Yi Ling (Shu Forces) – Prevent Zhu Ran’s fire attack then defeat Lu Xun.
• Element: AAAAAB
• Precious Item: In the center of the bottom right encampment.

Jiang Wei

• 5th Weapon: (O) The Battle at Yi Ling (Shu Forces) – After the Fire Attack wait for the enemy to trigger the Stone Warrior Formation ambush, then defeat Zhu Huan.
  • Zhu Huan won’t move from his spot which is near the Gate Captain North of Sun Quan.
• Precious Item: Of the Northwestern encampment East of the Easternmost rectangle.

Wei Yan

• 5th Weapon: (O) The Battle at Yi Ling (Shu Forces) – Defeat every general and gate captain.
  • Sub officers are not required, you may want to let Zhu Ran’s fire attack go off so Liu Bei will be in a safer area.
• Precious Item: West of the path before the bridges to the Wu main camp.

Pang Tong

• 5th Weapon: (O) The Battle of Chi Bi (Liu Bei’s Forces) – After the Fire Attack succeeds defeat Xiahou Dun.
• Element: AAAABB
• Precious Item: Near the bottom right ally Gate Captain.

Wei

Xiahou Dun

• 5th Weapon: (O) The Battle of Jie Ting (Wei Forces) – After Ma Su is surrounded, but before he breaks through defeat Wei Yan, Jiang Wei & Ma Chao.
  • Defeating Chen Shi will give you more time if you feel you need it, he is located behind Ma Su in the bend. Jiang Wei is Ma Chao’s sub officer who starts behind him.
• Element: AAAAAB
• Precious Item: Behind a house on the corner of the L shape bend in the center.

Dian Wei

• 5th Weapon: (O) The Battle at He Fei (Wei Forces) – After Taishi Ci’s death event defeat Lu Xun, later when Gan Ning’s surprise attack happens defeat him.
  • Let Taishi Ci be killed via event and that should set everything in motion.
• Precious Item: South of Cao Cao’s main camp slightly North of where Gan Ning appears.

Xu Zhu

• 5th Weapon: (O) The Siege of He Fei Castle (Wei Forces) - Defeat Lu Xun, Lu Meng, Sun Shang Xiang & Gan Ning.
  • There is no time limit unlike Sima Yi’s, if you want to use the danger Xu Zhu strategy you will want an Elixir with at least +16 to get your Musou back every True Musou use while you lay down.
• Element: AAAB
• Precious Item: Fenced area North from the Southern boat.

Cao Cao

• 5th Weapon: (O) The Battle of Mt. Ding Jun (Wei Forces) – Defeat Huang Zhong in 5 minutes.
• Precious Item: At the corner Southwest of where Huang Zhong starts.

Xiahou Yuan

• 5th Weapon: (O) The Battle at Tong Gate (Cao Cao’s Forces) - Make Han Shui defect.
• Element: AAAAAB(*B)(All hits)
• Precious Item: Northwest corner of Ma Chao's main camp.

Zhang Liao

• 5th Weapon: (X) The Battle at Guan Du (Dong Zhuo’s Forces) – Defeat every archer in Archer Towers before the Castle Wall falls.
• Element: AAAAB
• Precious Item: Northeast corner inside the castle.

Sima Yi

• 5th Weapon: (O) The Siege of He Fei Castle (Wei Forces) – Defeat Lu Xun, Lu Meng, Sun Shang Xiang & Gan Ning in order before Sima Yi gives the full attack message.
  • You have 9 minutes to defeat all these officers so don’t spend too much time on each one.
• Precious Item: Middle hall after the Wind Trap room.

Xu Huang

• 5th Weapon: (O) The Battle at Tong Gate (Cao Cao’s Forces) - Make Han Shui defect.
• Element: AAAAAB
• Precious Item: Under the top right Gate Captain.

Zhang He

• 5th Weapon: (X) The Battle of Jie Ting (Yuan Shao’s Forces) – Defeat in order Xu Zhu, Xiahou Yuan, Zhang Liao, Cao Zhen, Dian Wei & Xu Huang.
  • Xu Zhu is Xiahou Yuan’s sub officer who starts North of him, Cao Zhen & Dian Wei are Xiahou Dun’s sub officers who start South from your starting position, Xu Huang comes from the ambush unit at the East making his way to Yuan Shao.
• Precious Item: South of Yuan Shao in the small valley on the East.

Zhen Ji

• 5th Weapon: (O) The Battle of Guan Du (Cao Cao’s Forces) – Find Wu Chao Supply depot on the 4th check then defeat Chun Yuqiong to burn the supplies.
  • Save before entering Supply Depots so you don’t find the real one early.
• Element: AAAB
• Precious Item: Along the Eastern outer wall of the castle near an Archer Tower.

Wu

Zhou Yu

• 5th Weapon: (O) Assault on the Wu Territory (Sun Ce's Forces) - Defeat Liu Yong before your forces divide, pops up after Taishi Ci defects.
  • Zhang Ying and Chen Heng must be defeated in under 2 minutes to open the East Gate, otherwise you’ll have to take the longer Southern path in which case you’ll want to restart.
• Element: AAAAAB
• Precious Item: Southern section of the Northwestern encampment.

Lu Xun

• 5th Weapon: (O) The Battle at You Ting (Wu Forces) – Zhou Fang’s infiltration is discovered with Cao Xiu and either Zhang Pu or Zhang He still alive.
• Element: AAAAAB
• Precious Item: Zhou Fang’s starting position.

Taishi Ci

• 5th Weapon: (O) The Battle at He Fei (Wu Forces) – Defeat Zhang Liao after he ambushes the main camp.
• Precious Item: Southwest of Cao Cao’s starting position.

Sun Shang Xiang

• 5th Weapon: (O) The Battle at Fan Castle (Wu Forces) - Defeat Guan Ping before the flood attack.
  • The flood attack occurs 5 minutes into the stage.
• Element: AAAAAB(*B)
• Precious Item: Northwest corner of the platform protruding from the Southern castle wall, available after the flood.

Sun Jian

• 5th Weapon: (O) The Siege of He Fei Castle (Wu Forces) – Lead the troops through the Arrow and Wind trap rooms, defeat Zhang He & Xu Huang to open the gates, then defeat Man Chong and Cao Rui’s reinforcements and finally defeat Xu Zhu.
  • This is easier in Sun Jian’s Musou Mode so you don’t have to worry about Sun Quan and they all aim to get to you, Sun Quan is deceptively sturdy in this stage if you do this in Free Mode.
• Precious Item: Right side of Zhang He and Xu Huang’s area near the Eastern Wall.

Sun Quan

• 5th Weapon: (O) The Battle at He Fei (Wu Forces) – Defeat Zhang Liao before he cutscene kills Taishi Ci, then defeat Xu Zhu.
  • You can take as long as you want for Xu Zhu, but you must defeat Zhang Liao first and before the cutscene that would kill Taishi Ci. Xu Zhu starts near the West road leading to Cao Cao’s camp.

• Precious Item: Northwest corner near the Southwestern Gate Captain.

Lu Meng

• 5th Weapon: (O) The Siege of He Fei Castle (Wu Forces) – In order defeat Zhang He & Xu Huang, then trigger the Archer ambush in the center, then defeat Xu Zhu all before reinforcements arrive then defeat the reinforcements.
• Precious Item: Southwest corner from Zhang He’s starting position.

Gan Ning

• 5th Weapon: (O) The Battle at Yi Ling (Wu Forces) – Successfully navigate the Stone Warrior Formation and defeat Zhuge Liang.
• Element: AAAAAB
• Precious Item: In between the houses near the start of Zhu Ran’s path for the fire attack.

Huang Gai

• 5th Weapon: (O) The Yellow Turban Rebellion (Han Forces) – Defeat He Yi then Zhang Bao in order before other enemy officers.

Sun Ce

• 5th Weapon: (O) Surprise Attack on Liu Biao (Sun Jian’s Forces) – After Sun Jian is killed defeat Cai Mao.

Da Qiao

  • Make sure neither are the last officer to complete the stage or you can’t get the weapon.
• Precious Item: Near Liu Yong's starting position.

Diao Chan

• 5th Weapon: (X) Diao Chan’s Escape (Diao Chan’s Forces) – Defeat Lu Bu.

Lu Bu

Zhang Jiao

  • There is a potential glitch where some Peasants won’t move if the ones going through the Southeast make it to the escape point early so concentrate on the center so everyone will slowly move there, also you don’t need all 4 to make it, but it’s better to be safer.

These are new normal items that boost a specific value when equipped, like other Blue colored items they have differing maximum values.

Rare

These are items with specific effects that only need to be obtained once, their border is Red. The items are listed in order of how they appear when selecting items to use for battle, you can’t get these items to appear if you are playing on Novice difficulty. These are all only obtained in Xtreme Mode, if you are wanting the old items you can only get them in the [[[guide:dynasty-warriors-3#toc72 | vanilla game]]] with mixjoy.

Divine Helmet

• Effect: Prevent dizziness after strong attacks. (can’t be stunned)
• Stage: The Battle at Chi Bi (Lu Bu's Forces)
• Requirement: Personally defeat everyone, including sub officers leaving only Dong Zhuo alive.
  • The map provided shows where I found the unlisted sub officers.
• Precious Item: Near the bottom right Gate Captain.

Scroll of Accuracy

• Effect: Attack x2 but defense drops after getting knocked down (Double attack with reduced defense for 10 seconds after getting back up)
• Stage: The Battle of Mt. Ding Jun (Dong Zhuo’s Forces)
• Requirement: Defeat Huang Zhong.

Imperial Harness

• Effect: Run over all enemies with any horse (horse won’t buck to stronger officers)
• Stage: The Battle at You Ting (Nanman Forces)
• Requirement: Defeat Gan Ning & Sun Shang Xiang before the East & West Forts fall.
• Precious Item: Top portion of the map on the Western dead end.

Seven Stars Blade

• Effect: Makes it easier to receive high scores on your combos (combo timer stays up longer)
• Stage: Combo Mania
• Requirement: Get 1,000 combo points in 3 minutes.

Lightning Bow

• Effect: Can shoot lightning arrows (Lightning elemental arrows)
• Stage: The Battle at Yi Ling (Yellow Turbans)
• Requirement: Keep Huang Zhong alive for 10 minutes.
• Supply Unit: Northeast camp that makes its way South.

Seal of Darkness

• Effect: Imperial Seal has twice the effect (infinite Musou for 20 seconds)
• Stage: The Battle at Guan Du (Yuan Shao’s Forces)
• Requirement: Enter Cao Cao’s area.
• Precious Item: East of the Northern Fort.

Beast Harness

• Effect: Shows position of the last horse you rode (shows last mounted position)
• Stage: Speed Demon
• Requirement: Get to the goal in under 1 minute 30 seconds.

Marching Drum

• Effect: Increase the rate at which your unit’s morale increases (more morale raising chances)
• Stage: The Nanman Campaign (Yellow Turbans)
• Requirement: Defeat Zhuge Liang.
• Precious Item: On the slope after the bridge from the center.

Divine Gauntlet

• Effect: Get the Attack x2 item and even guarding enemies take damage. (small chip damage against guarding enemies with Attack x2 active)
• Stage: The Battle at Wu Zhang Plains (Dong Zhuo’s Forces)
• Requirement: Defeat Wei Yan, Jiang Wei, Zhao Yun, Ma Chao, Guan Yu & Zhang Fei.
  • Guan Yu is the only one who doesn’t naturally appear and will only arrive if Fan Chou is defeated before the 7 minute mark, so keep your kill count low to not increase his chance of living. This may take several attempts to get Fan Chou defeated to allow Guan Yu to appear.
• Supply Unit: East of Zhuge Liang’s starting position that makes its way to the Southwest Gate Captain.

Master’s Cloak

• Effect: Automatically perform the mid-air evade (auto flip recovery)
• Stage: Balancing Act Challenge
• Requirement: Knock over 100 enemies off in 10 minutes.

Legendary Scroll

• Effect: Even guarding enemies take damage during you Musou attack (Musou attack causes guard break, but drains faster)
• Stage: The Siege of He Fei Castle (Meng Huo’s Forces)
• Requirement: Defeat Zhuge Liang before the East and West gates open and before the South gate closes.
  • Defeating Zhang He, Xiahou En or Cao Ren will open their respective gate while charging through the South gate to get to Zhuge Liang directly will close it. You need to go through either the East or West side to get to him and deal with the archer trap from the center where he is located.
• Precious Item: The boat Zhu Rong starts by.

Musou Armor

• Effect: Prevents getting knocked back when hit by an arrow (unfazed by arrows)
• Requirement: Overall combo count of 12,000 Combo Bonus Point or 99,999 points on one character.
  • If not going for the character points the last slot will change color depending on your Combo Bonus Point progress.
  • 3000 Combo Bonus Points = Blue slot
  • 6000 Combo Bonus Points = Yellow slot
  • 9000 Combo Bonus Points = Red slot

Bodyguard Items

Like the regular cast bodyguards have their own set of items which can pop up in Item Bags drops, the ones meant for them have BG in front of the item name. There is one Red item for Bodyguards though.

Break Limit Items

New to this version is that Blue items have a higher limit they are able to reach, how do we get items to this new cap?
First you will need to be playing on Very Hard, you can do it on Hard, but the requirement is higher at 1,500 combo point. You need to get a combo point score of 1,000 on Very Hard before collecting item bags. So what constitutes a Perfect combo? You need to have a string of unique finishers together within a short time frame. An example of one is

AAB ~ AB ~ AAAAB ~ Short jump attack (CA) ~ AAAAAB(*B) ~ D
Note that your attack needs to hit someone to continue being counted as a combo point as long as it was a different part of the string. The amount of points you get is not based on the visible number, but what the combo text says counted as followed.

So you may score a Great at 90 combo points before it fades, but it will only contribute 30-35 (raises as you get more) to the total score visible at the end of the stage. So you want to aim for Perfects for the most value with your preferred character practicing in Combo Mania. If you aren’t able to score Perfects 4 Greats will roughly equal a Perfect.

Special Third costumes

In addition to everyone getting second colors there are 2 special outfits that can be unlocked as well, those being for Lu Bu & Sun Shang Xiang. These are picked by pressing $ or ^ when on their second color.

Lu Bu

To unlock this outfit you first need to complete all Xtreme Musou modes, afterward you must have the difficulty set to Very Hard and go to Free Mode > Xtreme > Normal Bodyguards and pick The Battle at Chi Bi under Dong Zhuo’s Forces, you must not pick Lu Bu as your character. If you did this Lu Bu’s portrait will change to have him with Silver armor, all you have to is beat this stage to unlock it, this also unlocks the unique song that plays for the stage Cham-Ba-Ra.

Sun Shang Xiang

To unlock this outfit you need all characters rank points to be maxed out at 99,999 and have every weapon in the game, every, single, one.
